Why Vacuum Your Carpet?
Vacuuming is one of the most important things you must regularly perform to maintain the appearance and extend the life of your carpet. Seventy Nine percent of the soil found in your carpet is dry insoluble matter, including sand, silica, grit, and other hard substances that are destructive to your carpet.
These substances abrade, scratch, and can even sheer off the fibers in your carpet. The abrasions and scratches cause your carpet to deflect light, making it appear worn, and even soiled.
You can slow this wear process down by removing most soil in your carpet through regular vacuuming. When selecting a vacuum, find one that has a soft brush roll, not a stiff one. Many brushes found on vacuums are too stiff for the modern softer cut pile carpets and can damage the finer denier fibers.
Some people have the mistaken idea that they need to set the brush down low so they can ‘dig’ the soil out of the carpet, but unknowingly damage their carpet by doing this. The purpose of the brush is not to ‘dig’ the soil out, but to vibrate the carpet so that the soil is ‘floating’ so the vacuum can more easily suck it up. An example of this can be seen here.
This rug is in the family room of my house, coming in from the garage. Notice how the soil is dancing around on top of the rug, almost suspended, which makes it easier for the vacuum to suck up the soil.
Soniclean has a vacuum that not only has a soft brush roll, but also has a sonic cleaning bar and an adjustable vent so you can adjust the amount of vacuum you use. You can check out their website here: sonicleanusa.com No, Sonrise Carpet Care does not sell these, but this is a great vacuum for a homeowner.
So, make sure you vacuum all your carpet every week and make your investment in carpet last longer!
